Ebonyi State’s economy is gaining momentum, reflected in a VAT revenue of ₦7.43 billion in the first quarter of 2025. This follows a solid annual VAT collection of ₦25.1 billion in 2024, marking steady growth compared to ₦22.5 billion in 2023.
According to the latest Federal Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) report, Ebonyi ranked 18th among Nigerian states in VAT collection for Q1 2025.
While it trails behind heavyweights like Lagos State, which generated over ₦2.7 trillion in VAT last year, Ebonyi’s increasing VAT revenue highlights expanding economic activities and improved tax compliance under Governor Francis Nwifuru’s administration.
The rise in VAT revenue highlights the effectiveness of Ebonyi’s initiatives to enhance tax compliance, broaden the tax base, and formalize more businesses within the state. Increased internally generated revenue is crucial for funding infrastructure projects and public services, supporting the state’s long-term economic development.
Maintaining and accelerating this growth trajectory will be essential for Ebonyi to achieve sustainable fiscal health and economic advancement.
