Blood Ritual? Man Faces Murder Charge After Allegedly Killing and Drinking Uncle’s Blood in Ebonyi

Date:

A 40-year-old man, Emmanuel Nwedu, was arraigned before Magistrate Court 11 in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, on Tuesday for the alleged murder of his uncle and reportedly consuming the victim’s blood.

The defendant, charged with one count of murder, appeared in court without legal representation. His plea was not taken during the hearing.

According to the prosecuting counsel, Senior State Counsel Emmanuel Alo, the incident occurred on May 24 in Ugboenyim community, located in the Ebonyi Local Government Area. Nwedu allegedly used a stick to strike his uncle, Mr. Godwin Nwedu, on the forehead, leading to his death.

The prosecution noted that the alleged crime violates Section 329(1) of the Criminal Code Law, Cap 33, Vol. 1, Laws of Ebonyi State, 2009.

Mr. Alo requested that the accused be remanded at the Federal Correctional Centre in Abakaliki while awaiting further investigation. Chief Magistrate Chinedu Agama granted the request and ordered the case file to be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for necessary action.

The case was adjourned until June 11 for a compliance report.
