Ebonyi State to Launch Commercial Flights at Okadigbo Airport This June

Date:

Commercial air services will officially kick off at Wilberforce Chuba Okadigbo International Airport, Onueke, Ebonyi State, in June 2025. This was disclosed by Dr. Ngozi Obichukwu, the Commissioner for Aviation and Transport Technology.

Dr. Obichukwu made the announcement while addressing claims circulating in the media about alleged flooding at the airport. She dismissed the allegations as baseless, stating that the airport is already handling chartered flights and remains fully operational.

“You’ve seen the airport for yourself—no trace of flooding. The facility is clean, secure, and functional. We’ve had chartered flights arriving and departing, and more are scheduled,” she noted.

She criticized the spread of misinformation, particularly on social media, emphasizing that images attributed to the airport were false and unrelated. “Those posting pictures online have never visited the airport. The images don’t reflect our facility at all,” she said.

According to the commissioner, the airport has received approval from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to begin a one-month trial of commercial flight services in June, as part of a phased rollout.

“For months, we’ve complied with regulatory procedures under charter operations. The next phase allows us to conduct commercial passenger flights for a month while awaiting clearance for full operations,” Dr. Obichukwu explained.

United Nigeria Airlines is set to manage flight routes connecting Ebonyi with Lagos and Abuja during the trial period. Information regarding booking and ticketing will be made public soon.
