Tournament debutants Abakaliki FC have booked a historic semifinal spot after a hard-fought victory over Nasarawa United in the quarterfinals of the 2025 President Federation Cup.
Abakaliki FC continued their remarkable rise in Nigeria’s premier knockout football tournament with a thrilling win on Saturday. The Ebonyi-based side defeated Nasarawa United 5-4 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in regulation time at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City.
Nasarawa United initially took the lead through Garba Abubakar in the 43rd minute, but Abakaliki FC equalized from the spot early in the second half. With both sides unable to break the deadlock, the match went into a penalty shootout, where Abakaliki FC emerged victorious, sealing a place in the semifinals on their first-ever appearance in the competition.
This stunning win follows their shock elimination of Enyimba FC in the Round of 16, further establishing Abakaliki FC as the tournament’s surprise package.
At the Bwari Stadium in Abuja, Ikorodu City edged Wikki Tourists 1-0 to make their first appearance in the President Federation Cup semifinals. The Lagos-based club continues to impress both in league and cup competitions.
Enugu Rangers claimed a 1-0 victory over Plateau United in a tense clash at the Area 3 Pitch, Abuja, while Kwara United defeated Akwa United 5-3 on penalties after a 2-2 draw in Enugu.

- Abakaliki FC vs Ikorodu City
- Kwara United vs Enugu Rangers
The semifinal matches are slated for May 17–18. The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is expected to announce the venues soon.
