Ohanaeze Youth Leader Igboayaka Regains Freedom After One-Month Detention in Ebonyi

Date:

Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, the National President of the Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC), has been released from Abakaliki Correctional Centre after spending a month in custody. His freedom, secured on Friday, March 22, 2025, comes after sustained advocacy from supporters who condemned his detention.

Igboayaka was reportedly arrested in February under the directive of Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, sparking widespread criticism. Many Igbo youths viewed his imprisonment as an attempt to suppress voices defending their rights.

Following his release, the Ohanaeze Youth Council described it as a triumph for justice, emphasizing their unwavering commitment to protecting Igbo interests. The development has been met with widespread celebration across the Southeast, with calls for stronger protections for activists advocating for their people.
