The management of Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike (AE-FUNAI) has suspended a student, Mr. Felix Okemini Ifesinachi of the Department of Political Science, over allegations of cult-related activities.
According to an official letter from the Office of the Registrar, the decision was made following a report on Mr. Okemini’s alleged involvement in cultism during the university’s matriculation ceremony on March 14, 2025. The letter, signed by the Registrar, Ifeanyi Igwe, Esq., emphasized that cultism and related activities violate the institution’s regulations and pose a threat to the security and moral standards of the university community.
“In line with the university’s disciplinary policies, the Vice-Chancellor, on behalf of the Senate, has directed that Mr. Okemini be suspended indefinitely, pending the outcome of an investigation by the Students’ Disciplinary Committee,” the letter reads.
This development underscores AE-FUNAI’s zero tolerance for cultism, reinforcing its commitment to maintaining a safe and conducive learning environment.
The university administration has consistently warned students against involvement in cultism, prostitution, and other social vices. During the 2024 matriculation ceremony, Prof. Sunday Elom had reiterated that any student caught engaging in such activities would face immediate suspension or expulsion.
The university authorities have assured that due process will be followed in addressing the matter.
