Twenty-seven students from six secondary schools and one primary school in Ebonyi State have benefited from an educational and leadership outreach organised by the United States Government Exchange Alumni Association of Nigeria (USGEAAN), Ebonyi State Chapter.
The outreach, held on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at the One Youth Hub, Ebonyi State University (EBSU) Main Library, Abakaliki, also brought together six teachers, bringing the total number of participants to 33.
The programme, tagged Freedom 250 Future Leaders Outreach, was organised as part of the 2026 US Alumni Day of Service in partnership with One Youth Global, with support from the U.S. Mission.
It formed part of activities commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States of America.
Participating students received school bags, water bottles, pens and journals to support their educational pursuits.
The outreach also featured mentorship sessions, speaker presentations and a panel discussion where U.S. Government Exchange Programme alumni and other speakers shared personal experiences and practical lessons on leadership, innovation, community service and civic responsibility.
Students were encouraged to pursue academic excellence, take initiative in their communities and explore opportunities available through U.S. Government Exchange Programmes.
The seven participating schools were Zion Comprehensive College, Mgbabor-Echara; Nnodo Secondary School, Nnodo; City Salt College, Umuoghara; Community Secondary School, Umuoghara; Hope High British International School, Abakaliki; Abakaliki High School, Abakaliki; and City Salt Primary School, Umuoghara.
One Youth Global served as the implementing partner, providing the venue, participant mobilisation, media coverage, logistics and hospitality support for the programme.
Its volunteers also coordinated the distribution of educational materials, participant transportation and other event activities, while the organisation’s Director of Competitions participated as a speaker and panellist.
According to the organisers, the outreach was designed to expose young people to leadership values, educational opportunities and the importance of contributing positively to their communities.
The organisers also identified the need to sustain the partnership and expand future editions to reach more schools, particularly those in rural and underserved communities.
They further recommended follow-up activities, including school visits and mentorship clubs, to ensure that the lessons from the outreach extend beyond the event.
The 2026 US Alumni Day of Service initiative reflects the community engagement efforts of U.S. Government Exchange Programme alumni, who organise activities aimed at giving back to their communities.
