A major private-sector development initiative has transformed a rural community in Ebonyi State as the Eleemosy Empowerment & Relief Foundation completed the reconstruction of a primary school and upgraded key public infrastructure in Iziola Ndiebor Ishieke Community, Ebonyi Local Government Area.
The project, commissioned on Sunday, May 31, 2026, highlights the growing role of corporate philanthropy in supporting education, community development, and rural transformation across Nigeria.
Led by tech entrepreneur and corporate executive, Mr. Cornelius Oroke, the foundation delivered a comprehensive upgrade at the Iziola Ndiebor Ishieke Community Nursery and Primary School, addressing critical challenges affecting learning conditions in the area.
The intervention included the construction of six new classroom blocks and an administrative office, alongside the complete renovation of three existing classroom structures that had deteriorated over time.
Beyond infrastructure, the foundation provided essential learning facilities, including 100 modern classroom lockers, whiteboards, and office furniture. Pupils also received educational support items such as school bags, books, and footwear to improve access to basic education for children in the community.
The project extended beyond the school environment, targeting wider rural development needs. The foundation graded a 4-kilometre access road linking the community to improve movement and economic activities. It also installed more than 100 solar-powered streetlights to enhance security and support local businesses by extending productive hours.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Oroke, who is the President of the Eleemosy Foundation and CEO of PaxalPay, said the initiative was designed to complement government efforts in improving education and infrastructure.
According to him, sustainable development requires collaboration between government, private organisations, and community stakeholders.
He explained that inadequate infrastructure and poverty in rural communities can limit opportunities for young people, adding that rebuilding schools and improving access routes creates a stronger foundation for future growth.
The initiative attracted government representatives, community leaders, and other notable stakeholders who commended the foundation’s commitment to grassroots development and social impact.
Among the dignitaries present were former Minister of State for Power and Steel, Chief Godwin Ogbaga; former federal lawmaker, Hon. Barr. Elizabeth Ogbaga; Chief Chris Ulchaji; and Chief Barr. Onyekachi Nwebonyi, alongside traditional leaders and community representatives.
While handing over the completed projects, Oroke urged residents and community leaders to protect and maintain the facilities to ensure they continue benefiting generations to come.
