DUFUHS, DUFUTH Launch Two-Month Free Medical Treatment in Ebonyi

Date:

The David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences (DUFUHS) and David Umahi Federal University Teaching Hospital (DUFUTH), Uburu, Ebonyi State, have commenced a two-month free medical treatment programme for residents of their host communities and other members of the public.

The initiative, launched at the teaching hospital on Tuesday, is aimed at improving access to healthcare services and supporting the early detection and treatment of common illnesses.

The free medical programme will provide beneficiaries with access to medical consultations and treatment for various health conditions, including malaria, diarrhoea, high blood pressure, arthritis, cholera and other communicable and non-communicable diseases.

Speaking on the initiative, the Vice-Chancellor of DUFUHS, Professor Jesse Uneke, said the programme was part of the institution’s efforts to contribute to improved healthcare delivery in Ebonyi State.

Uneke said the two-month exercise was designed to make medical services more accessible, particularly for people who may experience financial or other barriers to obtaining quality healthcare.

According to him, the programme is open to everyone and is not restricted by tribe, social status or other considerations.

“The treatment is not limited to some persons, it is open for everyone, irrespective of your tribe. This is part of our responsibility to give back to society,” he said.

The vice-chancellor added that DUFUHS and DUFUTH would continue to support initiatives aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of people within their host communities and surrounding areas.

Also speaking, the Chief Medical Director of DUFUTH, Professor Chihurumnanya Alo, said the free medical treatment would help residents access healthcare without being limited by their economic or social circumstances.

Alo urged members of the public experiencing symptoms of illness to visit the hospital and take advantage of the programme.

He noted that seeking medical attention early could help healthcare professionals identify diseases promptly, begin appropriate treatment and reduce the likelihood of complications.

The CMD also encouraged residents to maintain healthy habits and cooperate with healthcare workers in efforts to prevent the spread of communicable diseases.

The Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee, DUFUTH, Dr Ugoji Darlington-Peter, similarly encouraged residents and other members of the public to utilise the two-month free medical treatment exercise.

He said the programme provides an opportunity for people to have their health assessed while contributing to broader public health efforts in Ebonyi State.

The initiative is expected to strengthen the relationship between DUFUHS, DUFUTH and communities within their healthcare catchment areas while improving access to medical services.
