The Ebonyi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has inaugurated a 62-member Polling Unit Mobilisation for FON (PUM) structure as part of efforts to mobilise grassroots support for Governor Francis Nwifuru ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The inauguration was held at Re-Meritona Hotels and Suites in Abakaliki, where APC State Chairman, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, declared that the party would work to retain the Ebonyi State Government House for Governor Nwifuru in 2027.
Emegha, who was represented by the APC South-East Zonal Chairman for Ebonyi South, Alhaji Ernest Nweze, urged APC members and residents to disregard what he described as attempts by political opponents to undermine the Nwifuru administration.
The APC chairman also dismissed discussions about possible governorship ambitions from Ebonyi South, describing some of the activities surrounding the issue as driven largely by what he termed “content creators.”
He charged the newly inaugurated PUM officials to strengthen grassroots mobilisation and work towards building support for Nwifuru’s re-election.
Earlier, the State Coordinator of PUM, Ogbuefi Zaccheaus Ifeuwabundidi, unveiled the group’s grassroots mobilisation strategy for the 2027 Ebonyi governorship election.
Ifeuwabundidi said PUM plans to establish structures in every polling unit across Ebonyi State, with at least 10 mobilisation units assigned to each polling unit.
He said the mobilisation activities would include door-to-door, farm-to-farm, market-to-market and church-based engagements, with the governor’s achievements forming a major part of the group’s campaign message.
According to him, the decision to support Nwifuru’s re-election was based on what he described as the governor’s “verifiable performance and sterling leadership” under the administration’s People’s Charter of Needs.
The PUM coordinator said the organisation had also created directorates covering strategy and planning, security, inter-party affairs, medical services, media and publicity, contact and mobilisation, as well as monitoring and evaluation.
Addressing discussions about zoning and possible governorship contenders from Ebonyi South, Ifeuwabundidi, who is from the zone, said Governor Nwifuru should be allowed to complete two terms in office.
Also speaking at the event, the member representing Onicha Constituency in the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Ifeanyi Ogba, called for unity among APC members.
He said the group’s decision to mobilise support for the governor was based on what it considers his record in office rather than sentiment.
Ogba said the governor’s achievements would form an important part of the party’s campaign ahead of the 2027 election.
He cited scholarship programmes and the construction of more than 675 kilometres of roads among projects he said could shape voters’ considerations during the election.
The PUM Liaison Officer, Godwin Aliuna, said the organisation had the structure and capacity to mobilise support across communities and polling units in Ebonyi State.
Aliuna said the group would continue its grassroots activities ahead of the 2027 Ebonyi governorship election as it seeks to build support for Governor Nwifuru.
The inauguration comes as political activities and mobilisation efforts intensify across Ebonyi State ahead of the 2027 governorship poll.
