Tragedy befell Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike Ikwo (AE-FUNAI), Ebonyi, as a second-year student, Ogboji David Chukwuebuka, tragically passed away after collapsing on campus.
According to reports from DAILY POST, the incident occurred during a football tournament organized by the Directorate of Sports of the Student Union Government (SUG) at the university.
Ogboji, a student of the Department of Economics, was representing his faculty in a match against the Faculty of Biological Science during the university’s freshmen league competition.
Known affectionately as Bernardo, Ogboji collapsed on the field during the game and was promptly taken to the university clinic. Unfortunately, despite immediate medical attention and subsequent transfer to a hospital, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
In an official statement, Nwankwo Polycarp Chigozie, the SUG Director of Sports, expressed deep sorrow over the loss, extending heartfelt condolences to Ogboji’s family, friends, and fellow students. He concluded with a prayer for the departed student’s soul to rest in peace.
