Atiku Defeats Amaechi in Ebonyi ADC Presidential Primary Amid Factional Dispute

Date:

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has emerged as the winner of a factional African Democratic Congress presidential primary election held in Ebonyi State after securing 15,300 votes.

The primary election results were announced at Preston Hotel, which served as the state collation centre for the exercise.

According to figures released by the Ebonyi State Presidential Primary Election Committee, Atiku defeated former Rotimi Amaechi, who polled 2,200 votes, while Muhammad Hayatudeen received 200 votes.

The committee stated that a total of 18,891 voters were registered for the exercise conducted across 171 wards in the 13 local government areas of Ebonyi State. Out of that number, 17,700 voters were accredited to participate in the primary election.

Speaking while announcing the results, Fred Onwe, who chaired the election committee, said Atiku secured the highest number of votes and was therefore declared the winner of the presidential primary in the state.

The ADC State Chairman, Silas Joseph Onu, praised members of the committee for their commitment and dedication despite heavy rainfall experienced across parts of the state during the exercise.

Onwe also congratulated all the aspirants for their participation and resilience throughout the process.

Meanwhile, another faction of the party reportedly announced Amaechi as the winner of a separate exercise, highlighting ongoing divisions within the ADC presidential primary process.
