NSCDC Thwarts Child Trafficking Scheme, Rescues 15-Year-Old Ebonyi Girl in Abuja

Date:

Operatives from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) FCT Command have successfully disrupted a child trafficking operation, saving a 15-year-old girl from Ebonyi State in Kwali Area Council.

The teenager, originally from Ebonyi State, had been kidnapped and endured sexual abuse prior to her dramatic rescue. FCT NSCDC spokesperson, Deputy Superintendent of Corps (DSC) Monica Ojobi, confirmed the incident stemmed from a missing person report filed at the Kwali Central Divisional Office.

The Command’s dedicated Anti-Human Trafficking Unit sprang into action, apprehending 46-year-old suspect Anyanwu Daniel from Imo State.

Early probes indicate the suspect detained the minor for roughly two weeks, forcing her into sexual exploitation. He had reportedly arranged to smuggle her to Libya for child labor when NSCDC teams intervened.

“This victory underscores our relentless fight against human trafficking and child exploitation in the FCT,” Ojobi emphasized, highlighting the Corps’ dedication to safeguarding at-risk individuals.

Both the suspect and victim are now under the care of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for deeper inquiries and likely court action.

Ojobi called on Abuja residents to stay alert, report any suspicious behavior—particularly involving children—and cooperate with authorities to dismantle trafficking rings.
