The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State has criticised the African Democratic Congress (ADC) following the conduct of parallel state congresses that produced two different leadership factions.
Reports indicate that one faction of the party elected Silas Onu as state chairman, while another group announced Jennifer Adibe Nwafor as the party’s chairman in the state.
Speaking after his emergence during a congress held at Preston Hotel in Abakaliki on Saturday, Onu declared that the ADC under his leadership would challenge the ruling APC in the 2027 elections.
According to him, the opposition party has assembled credible leaders capable of taking political power from the ruling party in Ebonyi.
“We will present candidates for all elective positions, including the governorship. We are prepared not just to compete but to defeat them,” Onu stated.
However, reacting to the development, Ebonyi APC Chairman Stanley Okoro-Emegha urged the ADC to focus on resolving its internal leadership crisis rather than targeting the ruling party ahead of the 2027 Nigerian general elections.
Okoro-Emegha, who spoke through his Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs, Chijioke Agwu, questioned the authenticity of the ADC leadership in the state.
He said the opposition party must first clarify which of the two factions — led by Adibe Nwafor or Silas Onu — represents the legitimate leadership of the party in Ebonyi.
“In APC, there is no confusion about leadership. Stanley Okoro-Emegha remains the recognised state chairman, and no one else is laying claim to that position,” he said.
The APC chairman further advised both ADC factions to channel their efforts toward settling internal disputes at the state and national levels.
He also maintained that residents of Ebonyi State remain satisfied with the leadership of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru and the ruling APC, expressing confidence that the party will secure another electoral victory in 2027.
