The Labour Party (LP) in Ebonyi State has dismissed concerns that the exit of its 2023 presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, would destabilize the party, assuring members that its structure and leadership remain strong and united.
Speaking on the development, the party leadership urged members and supporters across the state to remain calm and loyal, stressing that the Labour Party in Ebonyi remains intact, formidable, and focused despite recent political shifts.
The state chairman of the party, Chief Henry Udeh, alongside the state secretary, Comrade Igiri Innocent, reaffirmed that the LP’s internal structure has not been affected by Peter Obi’s defection to the African Democratic Party (ADC).
According to the leadership, the party is committed to protecting the interests of its members through credible leadership and warned politicians with ulterior motives to stay away from LP activities in the state.
“We call on our members not to panic over Peter Obi’s exit. They should resist attempts by enemies of good governance who may try to lure them away from the Labour Party,” the statement read.
The leadership further emphasized that the Labour Party would continue to champion good governance, freedom of speech, improved security, and the dignity of the masses, noting that the party remains a strong opposition force in Ebonyi State and beyond.
While acknowledging that a few prominent members resigned following Obi’s departure, the party maintained that its vision and movement remain unchanged.
“We are together in this movement with our leaders. Our activities remain stable, and our commitment to good governance in Ebonyi State and Nigeria as a whole is unwavering,” the party stated.
