The Nigerian Army has announced the neutralisation of a wanted commander of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), identified as Alhaji, during a security operation in Ezza-Eyimaggu, Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
According to a statement released by the Army, the operation was carried out by troops of Sector 2, Operation UDO KA, following credible intelligence that led to the location of the suspect, identified as Alhaji, who had been on the military’s wanted list for terrorist activities in the region.
Military sources disclosed that the suspect resisted arrest and attempted to disarm a soldier, prompting a brief exchange that resulted in his death.
The Army described the operation as part of its ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist and separatist networks threatening peace and stability across the South-East.
It reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety of law-abiding citizens in Ebonyi and neighbouring states, urging residents to continue providing timely and credible information to support ongoing security operations.
