A prominent figure in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ebonyi State, Dr. Peter Okeh, has thrown his weight behind Mr. Peter Obi as the ideal candidate to fly the party’s flag in the 2027 presidential election.
Dr. Okeh, speaking in Abakaliki during a media chat on Sunday, stated that Obi—former Anambra State Governor and the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party—possesses unmatched credibility, grassroots appeal, and nationwide acceptance needed to lead the emerging opposition coalition.
According to him, the upcoming 2027 general election will not just be a contest between political parties, but a battle between the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the suffering Nigerian masses.
“I strongly believe Peter Obi is the right person to lead this coalition. His popularity among Nigerians, particularly through the Obidient Movement, is deeply rooted at the grassroots level. Politics is local, and Obi connects well with everyday Nigerians,” he said.
Dr. Okeh noted that Obi’s extensive engagements across the country and lessons from the 2023 elections have further strengthened his political standing. He added that many Nigerians are now more politically conscious and determined to challenge the current administration due to worsening economic conditions and poor governance.
“This administration has taken Nigeria to the brink—unprecedented economic hardship, insecurity, and massive corruption have defined their reign. Now, more than ever, Nigerians are united in their demand for real change,” Okeh emphasized.
He also argued that it would be unjust to deny the Southern region the opportunity to complete its fair share of the presidency, following what he described as an emerging political norm of rotational leadership.
Welcoming the formation of a united opposition coalition, Okeh hailed the move as a historic step towards reclaiming Nigeria’s democracy.
“The creation of this coalition is a landmark moment. It offers hope in these challenging times. With so many respected leaders coming together, we now have a real chance to break the APC’s grip on power and give Nigerians the government they deserve.”
He concluded by expressing confidence that the coalition has what it takes to triumph in the 2027 elections, urging Nigerians at home and abroad to rally around the movement and protect their votes.
