Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has expressed concern over the slow pace of construction work at the University of Aeronautics and Aerospace Engineering in Onueke, Ezza South Local Government Area of the state.
Nwifuru raised the concern during an inspection of ongoing projects across Ebonyi State, noting that the aerospace university project had not progressed at the expected pace.
The governor observed that the University of Aeronautics and Aerospace Engineering and the ICT University in Oferekpe Agbaja commenced around the same period, but the aerospace university project had recorded slower progress.
According to him, the waterlogged nature of the project site created some engineering challenges at the initial stage. However, he said the difficulties could no longer sufficiently explain the limited progress after two dry seasons.
Nwifuru subsequently directed the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Prof. Amari Omaka, to intensify supervision of the project and ensure that the contractors improve their pace of work.
He also called for stronger enforcement of the terms of the construction contract, urging the commissioner to put greater pressure on the contractors to accelerate construction and meet the expected delivery timeline.
The inspection was part of the governor’s assessment of major ongoing projects across Ebonyi State.
Other projects visited during the inspection included Reward Estate, the Flyover Tunnel and the new Ebonyi Hotel.
The Ebonyi Hotel project has historical significance, having originally been conceived as the World Trade Centre under the administration of Dr Sam Egwu, the state’s first executive governor.
The governor’s inspection comes amid continued government investment in infrastructure and education projects across Ebonyi State.
