Senator Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi, representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District and serving as Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, has unveiled plans to invest ₦200 million in building an ultra-modern law auditorium and developing internal road networks at Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike Ikwo (AE-FUNAI).
The announcement was made during a courtesy visit to the university’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Daniel Nwachukwu, in Abakaliki. According to the lawmaker, the infrastructure project forms part of his broader intervention efforts aimed at improving learning facilities and campus accessibility within the institution.
In addition to the proposed projects, Nwebonyi disclosed that 20 underprivileged students of AE-FUNAI will benefit from fully funded scholarships. He noted that the identities of the beneficiaries will be officially revealed in April during his upcoming empowerment programme.
Speaking on the development, Professor Nwachukwu commended the senator’s continued support for the university, emphasizing the importance of partnerships between academic institutions and federal lawmakers in driving sustainable growth in Nigeria’s education sector.
The Vice Chancellor also acknowledged Nwebonyi’s earlier intervention in settling outstanding tuition fees for some pioneer medical students, which enabled them to complete their studies and qualify as medical professionals.
Other stakeholders, including the Head of Accountancy Department, Dr. Monday Ikpor, and law lecturer Barrister Nnaemeka Nwambam, lauded the senator’s leadership and commitment to educational development in Ebonyi State.
