Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has ordered an immediate security operation following the reported abduction of Ezeogo Francis Igwe, the traditional ruler of Ndufu-Alike community in Ikwo Local Government Area.
The monarch, who is also the father of a former deputy governor of the state, was allegedly kidnapped on Sunday morning while travelling to church along the Nwakpu axis of Ikwo LGA.
In a statement released by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Monday Uzor, the state government confirmed that all security and intelligence agencies have been mobilized to ensure the safe rescue of the royal father.
Governor Nwifuru condemned the incident, describing the kidnapping as disturbing and unacceptable, emphasizing that attacks on citizens and respected traditional leaders will not be tolerated in Ebonyi State.
According to the governor, security agencies have been directed to collaborate closely in tracking down the perpetrators and securing the monarch’s release. He added that the government would deploy all available resources to strengthen security and prevent similar incidents across the state.
The governor also appealed to residents of Ikwo Local Government Area and neighbouring communities to remain calm while supporting ongoing security operations with credible information.
He further called on the kidnappers to release the traditional ruler without conditions, warning that anyone involved in the crime would face the full force of the law.
Governor Nwifuru expressed confidence that with cooperation from the public and the commitment of security operatives, the abducted monarch would be safely reunited with his family.
