The Federal Government has proposed a ₦70 million allocation for the supply of mini pick-up vans, shuttle buses and motorcycles to residents of Abakaliki Federal Constituency in Ebonyi State as part of the 2026 national budget.
The allocation is contained in the 2026 Appropriation Bill published on the Budget Office of the Federation’s website, under the capital expenditure proposals of the Federal Ministry of Works.
According to the budget document, the intervention is designed to support constituency-based empowerment programmes, with the aim of improving economic productivity, transportation support and livelihood opportunities for beneficiaries in Ebonyi State.
The proposed items include mini pick-up vans and shuttle buses intended to ease mobility and support small-scale commercial activities, as well as motorcycles to enhance access to transportation and logistics services within communities in Abakaliki Federal Constituency.
The allocation places Ebonyi State among beneficiaries of federal empowerment interventions spread across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, as outlined in the 2026 federal budget framework.
However, the inclusion of empowerment-related expenditures under the Federal Ministry of Works has continued to generate public debate, with stakeholders calling for greater transparency on beneficiary selection, implementation timelines and project execution.
As of the time of filing this report, the Ministry has not released further details on the procurement process or distribution schedule for the Ebonyi-related projects.
