The Governing Council of Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike (AE-FUNAI), Ebonyi State, has appointed Professor Daniel C. Nwachukwu, a renowned Cardiovascular Physiologist, as the 4th Vice-Chancellor of the institution.
The appointment was formally announced on Saturday, December 20, 2025, following a highly competitive selection process that featured over 40 senior professors from across Nigeria.
Professor Nwachukwu is currently a Professor of Cardiovascular Physiology in the Department of Physiology, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus (UNEC). He previously served as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of UNEC, a position he assumed in 2023.
Academically, Professor Nwachukwu earned his Bachelor’s degree in Human Physiology from the University of Lagos in 1995, before proceeding to the University of Benin, where he obtained his Master’s degree in 1997 and later completed his PhD in 2012.
With over 26 years of experience in academia, he joined the services of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) as a lecturer in July 1999 and rose through the ranks to become a Professor in 2016.
The new Vice-Chancellor hails from Okposi in Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. He is married and blessed with children.
His appointment is expected to usher in a new phase of academic growth, institutional development, and administrative stability at AE-FUNAI.
