In a major boost to healthcare delivery, the Government of Ebonyi State has received a donation of four state-of-the-art digital X-ray machines equipped with artificial intelligence (AI), alongside power packs and laptops, from the Global Fund.
Receiving the consignment on behalf of the Governor, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, on Wednesday, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Moses Ekuma, announced that the machines will be deployed across the three senatorial zones of the state for community diagnosis of tuberculosis (TB).
According to Dr. Ekuma, the equipment will be stationed at Iboko General Hospital (Ebonyi North), Onueke General Hospital (Ebonyi Central), Onicha General Hospital (Ebonyi South), and Mater Misericordiae Hospital, Afikpo.
Governor Nwifuru, while commending the Global Fund for the generous gesture, emphasized the need for the hospital management teams to ensure optimal use of the donated facilities in serving the health needs of residents.
“These machines should not gather dust in storage rooms. They are meant to save lives, and we expect them to be used maximally in the service of humanity,” the Governor said.
The Governor further noted that the donation aligns with his administration’s commitment to the People’s Charter of Needs, which prioritizes accessible and quality healthcare for all citizens.
It would be recalled that the Global Fund had earlier donated four similar digital X-ray machines to the state — a contribution whose effective utilization reportedly influenced the new round of donations.
Each of the newly donated machines is estimated to be worth ₦150 million.
