The Ebonyi State Police Command has confirmed the gruesome beheading of a middle-aged man, identified as Dick Nnachi, in Oso-Edda, Edda Local Government Area of the state.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Joshua Ukandu, the incident occurred on Thursday amid the lingering land dispute between Oso-Edda and Amasiri communities in Afikpo Local Government Area.
Ukandu, who described the killing as “wicked and inhumane,” said officers have been deployed to the disputed area to prevent further violence.
“We are aware of the incident, and investigation is ongoing to uncover the root cause and bring the perpetrators to justice,” he stated.
The PPRO also reminded residents that Governor Francis Nwifuru had earlier declared the disputed zone a buffer area. He urged members of both communities to steer clear of the restricted areas for their safety.
Ukandu assured that security agencies were working with government authorities to restore peace and stability in the region, stressing that efforts are ongoing to prevent escalation of the Ebonyi communal conflict.
