Ebonyi State witnessed a tragic incident today as a fatal accident at Nwanwu Junction claimed the lives of three people, leaving several others injured. The victims have since been rushed to nearby hospitals for emergency treatment, while properties worth millions were destroyed in the process.
According to eyewitness accounts, the accident occurred when a concrete mixer truck, reportedly coming from Nwezenyi, experienced brake failure. In a bid to avoid colliding with a motorcycle involved in an earlier crash along Offia Oku Amachi Road, the truck veered uncontrollably into shops at the junction.
Shops belonging to DJ Ogobest and two food vendors were completely destroyed in the accident, leaving the area in shock and sorrow.
Eyewitnesses further revealed that many of the injured remain unconscious, raising fears that the death toll could rise.
Residents have described the incident as a “Black Wednesday in Ebonyi”, calling for urgent government intervention to improve road safety and ensure strict vehicle maintenance checks to prevent similar tragedies.
