Ebonyi: NSCDC Refutes Involvement in Alleged N25 Million Baby Sale Cover-Up

Date:

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ebonyi State Command, has officially denied claims suggesting it colluded with other security agencies to conceal the sale of a newborn baby for ₦25 million.

The rebuttal was made by the Commandant of the NSCDC in Ebonyi, Mr. Francis Nnadi, through a press statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Corps I (ASCI) Emmanuella Ibeneme.

Reacting to a viral publication titled “How police officers, NSCDC in Ebonyi allegedly connived to cover up sale of newborn baby for N25m”, Mr. Nnadi described the report as false, misleading, and unverified.

“The attention of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ebonyi Command, has been drawn to a malicious report falsely accusing one of our legal officers of being involved in a child trafficking case involving Miss Sussana Nwanneka Nweze, who allegedly sold her baby,” the statement read.

The NSCDC stressed that neither the mentioned officer nor the command was involved in the alleged illegal adoption. “The report is not only unfounded but also defamatory and damaging to the integrity of the corps,” the statement added.

Following its preliminary investigation, the NSCDC confirmed that the case had been officially transferred to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), which is legally mandated to handle such matters.

The Corps has demanded a public retraction and formal apology from the media organization responsible for the report within 48 hours, warning that legal actions will be taken if the demand is not met.

“We advise all media outlets to practice responsible journalism and verify facts before publishing,” the statement concluded. “The NSCDC remains committed to delivering professional and transparent security services to the people and government of Ebonyi State.”
