Federal High Court: Chief Judge Redeploys Five Jurists—Abakaliki Seat Affected

Date:

The Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Hon. Justice John Tsoho, has redeployed five judges across the country, shifting one away from Ebonyi State’s Abakaliki Division and assigning a replacement to handle its docket.

Justice Tsoho’s directive, circulated through the court’s Director of Information, Dr Catherine Christopher, moves Justice M. T. Segun-Bello from Abakaliki to the Enugu Division. Judges already resident in Abakaliki will take charge of every pending and future case “until otherwise instructed,” the notice states.

For litigants and lawyers in Ebonyi, the change should be seamless: files stay in Abakaliki, and no new applications for re-assignment are required.

“All matters formerly before Court 5 in Abuja or before any transferred judge will follow the judge to the new station automatically,” Dr Christopher clarified.

Other transfers include:

  • Justice M. G. Umar — Enugu → Abuja (Court 5)
  • Justice Tijjani Garba Ringim — Gombe → Yola
  • Justice Bala Khalifa-Mohammed Usman — Yola → Awka
  • Justice Amina Aliyu Mohammed — Awka → Gombe

The redeployed judges have been urged to deliver all pending judgments in their former courts “within the shortest possible time.” Court watchers in Ebonyi will be looking to see how quickly the Abakaliki Division’s new team clears its caseload.
