Mary-Maudline Nwifuru Launches State-Wide Baby-Care Drive, Reaching 17,000 Ebonyi Mothers with Health Kits & Support

Date:

First Lady Mary-Maudline Nwifuru has launched the Ebonyi Baby Shower Initiative, a programme set to supply more than 17,000 pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers across the state’s 177 wards with vital maternity kits, health-education sessions, and improved access to antenatal services.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony in her Abakaliki office, Mrs Nwifuru said the project, run in partnership with the Ebonyi State Ministry of Health and BERWO Foundation, aims to boost antenatal attendance, safe-delivery practices, nutrition awareness, exclusive breastfeeding, and emotional support.

“Every mother and baby deserves dignity and a healthy start,” she stressed, adding that the baby-care packs will be distributed through all public health facilities.

The First Lady noted that many rural women still view childbirth with fear. “Motherhood should inspire hope, not anxiety,” she said. “This initiative is close to my heart because it tackles those fears head-on with practical help and reliable information.

The launch coincided with Ebonyi Maternity Day, underscoring the state government’s broader commitment to reducing maternal mortality and improving newborn health.
