Date:

The Ebonyi State Government has declared its full support for a Bill seeking to establish the National Institute for Film and Media Technology in Ukawu, Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

The endorsement was made during a public hearing at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja, organized by the House of Representatives Committee on Information, National Orientation, Ethics, and Values.

Presenting the State Government’s memorandum, the Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Moses Ije Odunwa, represented Governor Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, affirming the state’s readiness to host and support the proposed institute.

The Bill, sponsored by Hon. Nkemkanma Kama, who represents the Ohanivo Federal Constituency, seeks to establish a federal institution that will serve as a center for media innovation, creative excellence, and technical capacity building in Nigeria’s film and media industry.

In his presentation, Rt. Hon. Odunwa expressed appreciation to Hon. Kama for championing such a visionary project. He emphasized that Ebonyi State, under the progressive leadership of Governor Nwifuru, is creating a safe, supportive, and innovation-driven environment suitable for such an institution.

“This initiative aligns with our state’s development vision and Nigeria’s broader creative economy agenda. We urge the National Assembly to fast-track the passage of the Bill to ensure timely implementation,” Odunwa stated.

Stakeholders at the hearing acknowledged the strategic importance of the proposed Institute in equipping young Nigerians with the skills needed to thrive in the global creative industry. If approved, the Institute is expected to place Ebonyi State at the forefront of media training and innovation in the country.
