The race for Ebonyi State’s 2027 gubernatorial elections is already taking shape as Senator David Umahi, former governor and current Minister of Works, endorsed Governor Francis Nwifuru for a second term.
Umahi expressed his support on Friday while hosting members of the Izzi National Youth Forum at his Umunagu Uburu country home in Ohaozara. The group, led by National President Barrister Andrew Chibueze Elom, paid Umahi a surprise Christmas visit to thank him for supporting the Izzi people by ensuring one of their own emerged as governor.
The former governor highlighted his unwavering confidence in Nwifuru’s leadership and commitment to completing two terms, emphasizing that nothing would deter him from supporting the governor.
“The covenant I have with Nwifuru and God guarantees eight uninterrupted years. I’ve faced principalities before and won, and now with him by my side, it’s even easier,” Umahi stated. “Governor Nwifuru’s humility and dedication make him the best option for Ebonyi.”
Elom, speaking on behalf of the Izzi youths, thanked Umahi for keeping his promise to hand over the governorship to an Izzi man. He also appealed for continued mentorship to ensure Nwifuru’s administration remains on track.
“We appreciate your efforts in ensuring an Izzi son became governor. Please continue to guide and support him, so he doesn’t lose his way,” Elom urged.
As the 2027 elections approach, Umahi’s endorsement solidifies Nwifuru’s position as a strong contender for a second term, with his administration receiving praise for its achievements so far.
