Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has called upon Corps Members in the state to champion national unity, peace, and integration, particularly in these trying times. Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of the 2024 Batch ‘A’ stream ‘1’ Corps Members at the National Youth Service Corps Permanent Orientation Camp in Afikpo North Local Government Area, the Governor, represented by the State Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Mr. Richard Idike, emphasized the importance of cultural coexistence in achieving these goals. He stressed the need for cooperation and teamwork, highlighting the eradication of nepotism, corruption, tribalism, and ethnicity as crucial steps towards progress.
Governor Nwifuru acknowledged the NYSC’s role in promoting national unity, integration, and socio-economic development, as well as instilling a sense of industry, patriotism, and loyal service in Nigerian youths. He pledged ongoing support and security for the Corps Members throughout their service year, promising recognition and rewards for outstanding performance.
NYSC State Coordinator Mrs. Oladeinde Foluke reiterated the scheme’s establishment in 1973 to enhance national unity and integration post-war. She emphasized the importance of the orientation course and Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) Programme, urging Corps Members to actively participate. Foluke also encouraged them to familiarize themselves with the NYSC Handbook for a comprehensive understanding of the service year’s activities.
Mrs. Foluke expressed gratitude to all who contributed to the success of the swearing-in ceremony.
