The family of Professor Samuel Onyeagoziri Ndubueze, a well-known bishop in Ebonyi State, has spoken out following allegations that he sexually assaulted a 22-year-old woman.
Ndubueze, who is the General Overseer of Champions of Truth Church in Abakaliki, was accused of repeatedly having sexual relations with the young woman—reportedly a sickle-cell patient—with claims that he believed doing so would change her genotype and heal her condition.
Following a petition, the Ebonyi State Police Command arrested him. He was later arraigned and ordered to be remanded at the Abakaliki Correctional Centre by a magistrate court.
However, the bishop’s children insist that their father is innocent. According to a statement released by Daniel Chukwuebuka Ndubueze on behalf of the family, they allege that the young woman manipulated their father, turning what began as compassion and trust into a setup.
They appealed to Governor Francis Nwifuru to intervene and ensure justice prevails.
“We are pleading with you, Your Excellency Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, to save our father from this orchestrated plan to destroy him. He is a victim, not the aggressor,” the statement read in part.
The children also said that freeing their father would restore hope and show that Ebonyi State stands for justice and fairness rather than rushed judgments.
