In a collaborative effort to support vulnerable communities, the Ebonyi State Government and Dangote Group have officially launched the distribution of 12,000 bags of rice (10kg each) to indigent citizens, widows, and market women across the state.
The initiative also includes the distribution of essential food items such as spaghetti, macaroni, twist cavato, and garri.
Speaking at the flag-off event in Abakaliki, the Commissioner for Human Capital Development and Monitoring, Mrs. Ann Anigwe, explained that the program aligns with Governor Nwifuru’s People’s Charter of Needs, aimed at improving the welfare of Ebonyi residents.
Mrs. Anigwe noted that 50 individuals from each of the 13 local government areas—totaling 650 beneficiaries—participated in the initial distribution, with each receiving a bag of rice. She emphasized that the remaining rice would be distributed to grassroots communities under the supervision of local government chairpersons.
“Governor Nwifuru is committed to ensuring the welfare of citizens. Dangote Foundation’s donation of 12,000 rice bags will reach all 13 local government areas, targeting vulnerable groups including people living with disabilities, widows, indigent individuals, and market women,” Anigwe stated.
Representing Dangote Group, Mr. Victor Ejiro said the foundation is dedicated to addressing food insecurity and supporting widows, orphans, and disadvantaged communities in Ebonyi State. He urged local government officials to ensure that all donated items reach those in need.
The initiative received commendation from Dr. (Mrs.) Euphemia Nwali, Chairman of Ezza South Local Government, who praised both the state government and Dangote Group for their generosity. Beneficiaries, including Mrs. Chinasa Okorie and Mr. Innocent Nwador, also expressed gratitude for the assistance.
The event was attended by key officials, including Mr. Clement Ovuoba, Executive Secretary of Ebonyi State Emergency Management Agency (EB-SEMA), Mr. James Iro, General Manager of EB-CSDA, women groups, and representatives from the Ministry of Human Capital Development.
This initiative underscores the commitment of the Ebonyi State Government and Dangote Foundation to enhancing food security and supporting vulnerable communities across the state.
