Ebonyi Veterinary School Inducts 90 Para-Professionals into Animal Health Sector

Date:

No fewer than 90 veterinary para-professionals from the Ebonyi State School of Veterinary Medicine, Ezzamgbo, have been officially inducted into the animal health and livestock industry, marking a major step in strengthening Nigeria’s veterinary workforce.

Speaking at the Induction and Oath-Taking Ceremony, Dr. Fadipe Oladotun, Acting Registrar of the Veterinary Council of Nigeria (VCN), emphasized the importance of collaboration within the veterinary sector.According to him, animal health requires a team-based approach to effectively handle disease control, food safety, and animal welfare, all of which contribute to public health and food security.

“Today’s induction signifies your formal entry into the animal health industry. You are expected to serve as technicians, disease surveillance officers, and vaccination and preventive care personnel,” Dr. Oladotun said.“Governments must prioritize better remuneration and working conditions for veterinary professionals to boost productivity in Nigeria’s livestock sector,” he added.

The VCN boss also highlighted the need for increased recruitment of veterinarians to combat high-impact animal diseases and strengthen emergency response capacity across the country.

In his remarks, Mr. Michael Nwokporo, Director of Veterinary Services in Ebonyi State, commended the management of the school for sustaining progress despite challenges. He advised the new professionals to maintain ethical standards, practice timely referrals, and avoid quackery and drug misuse, which contribute to antimicrobial resistance.

Also speaking, Dr. Gloria Magaji, Chairperson of the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA) in Ebonyi, congratulated the inductees and urged them to make meaningful contributions to animal health and community development.

The Principal of Ebonyi Veterinary School, Dr. Augustine Igwe, encouraged the graduates to uphold discipline and professionalism, while Mr. Dennis Nwibo, who represented the inductees, pledged their commitment to ethical veterinary practice.

The event featured the presentation of certificates of induction to the new veterinary officers, officially welcoming them into Nigeria’s animal health workforce.
