Chief Abia Onyike, a former Deputy National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), has officially declared his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat representing the Afikpo/Edda Federal Constituency of Ebonyi State in the 2027 general elections.
Onyike announced that he will seek the ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to run for the National Assembly seat.
In a statement released on Saturday, the former Ebonyi State Commissioner for Information said his decision to join the race was motivated by his commitment to advancing development and addressing the needs of people in the Afikpo/Edda Federal Constituency.
He revealed that he plans to begin a series of consultations with key stakeholders and community leaders across the two local government areas that make up the constituency—Afikpo North and Edda—to discuss his vision and gather ideas that will support the growth and progress of the area.
According to Onyike, the consultations will help him engage directly with residents and members of the diaspora on issues that affect the future of the constituency.
“I want to use this opportunity to inform our people at home and in the diaspora that I intend to contest for the House of Representatives seat for Afikpo/Edda Federal Constituency in the 2027 general elections under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC),” he said.
“In the coming weeks, I will be consulting widely with stakeholders in Afikpo North and Edda to share my plans and exchange ideas on key development priorities for the constituency.”
The APC aspirant also called on constituents both within Nigeria and abroad to support his ambition, expressing confidence that collective efforts will help drive meaningful development across the Afikpo/Edda Federal Constituency.
