The leadership of the David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences has firmly dismissed reports of an alleged internal crisis, describing the claims as inaccurate and misleading.
Speaking to journalists, Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Adebayo Shittu, refuted suggestions of a rift between the university’s governing council and management. He emphasized that the institution remains stable and fully committed to its academic mission.
Shittu also addressed rumours that he had been sidelined in university affairs, stating that such claims lack any factual basis. He noted that his extensive experience in public service makes such a situation unlikely and urged the media to avoid spreading unverified information capable of causing unnecessary tension.
Corroborating his statement, Vice-Chancellor Jesse Uneke confirmed that members of the Governing Council were present on campus for an official statutory meeting, countering claims that the council was inactive.
“As evident, the council is fully operational. Any report suggesting otherwise is incorrect,” he said.
Uneke further highlighted that the university continues to maintain academic and administrative stability, attributing ongoing infrastructural development to effective governance and oversight.
Also speaking, Governing Council member Saliou Bamidele Aluko dismissed allegations that the council had been hijacked, stressing that it operates independently and in line with established procedures.
Similarly, Paul Okpe, representing the Federal Ministry of Education Nigeria on the council, described the reports as unfounded. He reiterated that both the council and university management are working collaboratively without conflict.
The university management reaffirmed its openness to transparency and encouraged stakeholders to seek verified information through official channels rather than relying on speculation.
