DUFUHS Expels Three Students, Sanctions 26 Others Over Misconduct

Date:

The management of David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences (DUFUHS), Uburu in Ebonyi State, has expelled three students and sanctioned several others for various acts of misconduct.

Vice-Chancellor, Jesse Uneke, disclosed this during the university’s 5th Matriculation and Open Day ceremony for the 2025/2026 academic session, where 1,044 newly admitted students were officially welcomed into the institution.

According to Uneke, disciplinary actions were taken against 29 students in the past year, with penalties determined based on the severity of their offences.

He explained that three students were expelled after being found guilty of examination malpractice and theft.

The Vice-Chancellor further revealed that ten students received a one-year suspension for offences including illicit drug smoking, cyberbullying, obscene or defamatory publications, and stealing.

In addition, fourteen students were suspended for periods ranging from one month to one semester for offences such as bullying, assault, and theft. One student was withdrawn due to poor academic performance, while another received a warning letter for minor misconduct.

Uneke urged parents and members of the host community to take advantage of the university’s free extramural programme, which is designed to support secondary school students preparing for WAEC, NECO, and JAMB examinations.

He noted that the initiative offers free lessons in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as part of the university’s community development efforts.

To support the programme, the university has provided tables, chairs, solar-powered electricity, fans, and teaching materials, while lecturers from the institution will serve as instructors.

The Vice-Chancellor also expressed appreciation to Bola Tinubu for the Federal Government’s support for the education sector under the Renewed Hope agenda, noting that the university has benefited from infrastructural projects funded by Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).

Uneke emphasised that the university maintains strict disciplinary standards for both students and staff, warning that violations of institutional regulations will attract appropriate sanctions. He also encouraged students to remain focused on their academic responsibilities.
