ICPC Launches Monitoring of N2.2bn Federal Government Projects in Ebonyi

Date:

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has commenced the tracking and monitoring of more than 25 Federal Government-funded projects worth N2.2 billion across Ebonyi State.

The anti-corruption agency disclosed that the exercise covers capital projects distributed across the state’s 13 local government areas, as part of efforts to strengthen transparency and accountability in public spending.

Upon arrival in the state, the ICPC monitoring team inspected projects located in Ebonyi, Ohaukwu, Ezza North, and Ishielu local government areas.

At the Ebonyi State College of Health Sciences and Technology, the team assessed a newly constructed laboratory facility funded through the lawmaker representing Ebonyi/Ohaukwu Federal Constituency and implemented by the Centre for Management Development.

The tracking exercise also evaluated streetlight installations facilitated by Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi within the Ebonyi North Senatorial District.

In addition, the Commission monitored empowerment initiatives and streetlight projects executed across Ebonyi Central Senatorial District by Senator Ken Eze. Feeder road projects serving farm settlements in Ezza South Local Government Area were equally inspected.

According to the ICPC, the ongoing project tracking initiative is designed to ensure that appropriated Federal Government projects are completed according to specifications and effectively utilised for public benefit.

The agency noted that where cases of contract irregularities, abandoned projects, or financial mismanagement are discovered, contractors may be directed to return to site or refund public funds paid for incomplete or poorly executed jobs.

The project monitoring team comprises officials from the ICPC, representatives of the Nigeria Institute of Quantity Surveyors, civil society organisations, and members of the media.

The exercise underscores the Federal Government’s renewed commitment to combating corruption, ensuring value for money, and improving infrastructure delivery across Ebonyi State.
