Osborne Umahi, son of Nigeria’s Minister of Works and former Ebonyi State Governor, Senator David Umahi, has officially obtained the chairmanship nomination form for Ohaozara Local Government Area ahead of the forthcoming Ebonyi State local government elections.
Osborne emerged as one of the aspirants endorsed by Governor Francis Nwifuru as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates for the council polls scheduled across the 13 local government areas of Ebonyi State.
The governor’s endorsement has continued to generate mixed reactions among political stakeholders and observers within the state. Reacting to the development, Senator David Umahi described the gesture as a mark of appreciation and confidence in the leadership capacity of his son.
On Friday, Osborne arrived at the APC state secretariat in Abakaliki alongside supporters and well-wishers, where he purchased the N30 million chairmanship nomination form. He, however, declined to speak with journalists after completing the process.
Speaking at the party secretariat, the Ebonyi State Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Francis Ori, expressed confidence in Osborne’s candidacy, noting that he possesses the qualities needed to serve the people of Ohaozara LGA.
According to Ori, Osborne is well-grounded in governance and is expected to build on the legacy of his father, who served as Ebonyi State governor and now as a federal minister. He added that residents of the local government are fully supportive and ready to demonstrate their backing at the polls.
The development signals growing political activity ahead of the Ebonyi council elections, as parties intensify preparations for grassroots governance across the state.
