The Ebonyi State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the abduction of a six-year-old girl, following a swift operation that led to her safe rescue in Abakaliki.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu, the suspects allegedly kidnapped the child and demanded a ransom of ₦50 million for her release.
Ukandu identified the arrested suspects as Okafor Ofubuike and Chisom Daniel, both aged 23. He explained that the suspects reportedly visited the child’s mother’s shop in the Onuebonyi area of Abakaliki, where they pretended to be customers before abducting the young girl.
The incident was reported on January 6, 2026, by the child’s mother, Mrs. Obasi Daberechi, prompting immediate action by operatives of the command’s Rapid Response Squad (RRS).
“Acting on credible intelligence and through diligent investigation, our officers tracked the suspects to a hideout at Agogboriga Layout, Abakaliki, where the child was rescued unharmed,” Ukandu stated.
He described the arrest as a major breakthrough for the command in the New Year, adding that the suspects are currently in custody and undergoing investigation.
“The suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations,” the police spokesperson added.
The Ebonyi State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to combating kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state.
