Ebonyi APC Sets ₦25 Million Nomination Fee for Local Government Chairmanship Aspirants

Date:

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State has officially announced that its primaries for the upcoming local government and councillorship elections will hold on January 25, 2026..

State Chairman Chief Stanley Emegha made the announcement during a press briefing in Abakaliki on Monday, following a State Executive Committee meeting. He urged all political appointees intending to contest the primaries to adhere to Governor Francis Nwifuru’s directive to resign from their positions before the elections.

“The primary election for both chairmanship and councillorship positions is set for January 25. All related processes will begin earlier in the month. Any public servant under the governor’s appointment must resign at least 30 days before the primaries. Those failing to resign by December 20, 2025, will be ineligible to contest,” Emegha stated.

Emegha also confirmed that membership revalidation will begin as soon as the party receives the required registration code, assuring that transparency will guide all activities during the primaries.

In a significant announcement for aspirants, Emegha revealed that the nomination fee for local government chairmanship positions is set at ₦25 million. To ensure fair competition and promote party unity, the sale of forms will be limited to a few aspirants per local government area.

Highlighting the party’s political dominance in Ebonyi State, Emegha stated that APC currently controls all key political offices:

  • 171 out of 171 ward councillors
  • 13 out of 13 local government chairmen
  • 24 out of 24 State House of Assembly members
  • Six National Assembly seats
  • Three Senate seats

In a related development, Iduma Igariwey, the last opposition federal lawmaker from Afikpo/Edda federal constituency, has officially defected from the PDP to the APC. Igariwey has registered in his local Itim 001 ward, marking a full consolidation of APC’s political presence in the state.

Emegha also unveiled plans to construct a new APC party secretariat in Ebonyi State, which he said would be larger than the national secretariat. Scheduled for completion within six months, the new building is intended as a symbol of the party’s leadership and commitment to democracy in the state.

“These developments demonstrate APC’s commitment to good governance, internal democracy, and transparent political processes in Ebonyi State,” Emegha emphasized.

The party continues to stress compliance, unity, and fairness as it prepares for what is expected to be a smooth and credible primary election season.
