The Ebonyi State Police Command has apprehended two suspected cult members and recovered a locally made pistol along with 14 rounds of live ammunition during an operation in Amanekwula Village, Ezza South Local Government Area of the state.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Joshua Ukandu, revealed that the arrest followed credible intelligence received by operatives of the Command’s Crack Squad.
According to Ukandu, the operation was launched on October 21, 2025, after reports of sporadic gunfire by suspected hoodlums in the area.
“On sighting the police team, the suspects attempted to flee into a nearby bush but were swiftly pursued and arrested,” Ukandu said.
The arrested suspects were identified as Chigbo Eze and Igbele Osinachi, both male. Recovered items included one locally fabricated pistol and fourteen rounds of 9mm live ammunition.
The PPRO added that the suspects are currently in police custody while investigations continue to track down other members of the criminal gang.
He confirmed that the suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Adaku Uche-Anya, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring peace and security across Ebonyi State. She urged residents to support the police by providing timely and credible information to help combat crime and cult-related activities in the state.
