The Ebonyi State Government has cautioned property owners and developers in Abakaliki to seek official approval before commencing any building project, warning that unauthorized construction will no longer be tolerated in the state capital.
The announcement came from the Ministry of Capital City Development, led by Chief Sunday Elechi Inyima, who reaffirmed the state’s commitment to enforcing urban development standards in line with the vision of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru’s People’s Charter of Needs.
According to the commissioner, obtaining the necessary permits is not only a legal requirement but also a vital step to ensure safety, orderliness, and sustainable city growth.
“We are building a capital city that reflects excellence and order,” Inyima said. “Builders must work with the ministry to secure proper approvals before construction. It saves time, prevents penalties, and ensures your structure meets our development standards.”
He further noted that the ministry, located along Ezza Road in Abakaliki, is open to guide citizens through the process, ensuring that every building aligns with the city’s master plan.
The commissioner also urged residents to report any ongoing illegal construction, assuring that the government will continue monitoring and regulating development across the capital.
“Building with confidence means building by the rules,” he added. “Our ministry is not out to frustrate anyone, but to help create a safer, more organized Abakaliki.”
With the government intensifying its city planning efforts, the call serves as both a reminder and a warning to those intending to build without authorization.
