Family Seeks Help Over Kidnapped Ebonyi Businessman Missing Since March

Date:

The family of Mr. Uchenna Okoro, an Ebonyi-born trader who was kidnapped along the Enugu–Benue highway on March 10, 2025, has appealed to security agencies and the public for assistance in finding him.

According to reports, Okoro was abducted by suspected Fulani herdsmen while traveling from Enugu to Makurdi. Months after his disappearance, there has been no word from his captors or the authorities, leaving the family in deep anguish.

In a statement released by his brother, Frank Uzochukwu, the family—alongside residents of Amanator community in Ebonyi State—condemned what they described as the government’s silence on the rising kidnapping incidents along the Enugu–Benue road, which they now call a “terror zone” for travelers.

“If someone like Mr. Uchenna Okoro, a respectable businessman, can vanish without a trace, then no one is safe. The Enugu–Benue road has turned into a blood-stained highway,” Uzochukwu lamented.

The family revealed that they received ransom calls from the kidnappers shortly after the incident, but communication stopped two weeks later, intensifying fears about his fate.

“We don’t know if he’s alive or dead. The silence is unbearable,” they said.

As of the time of this report, Mr. Okoro’s whereabouts remain unknown, heightening concerns over the increasing rate of abductions, banditry, and insecurity in Nigeria, particularly along the Enugu–Benue axis.
