The Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Student Housing Project—a nationwide Public-Private Partnership (PPP) initiative—has included Ebonyi State University (EBSU) among the 24 tertiary institutions selected to benefit from its modern hostel development plan.
The initiative, driven by the Family Homes Funds Limited (FHFL) in partnership with the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) and Africa Plus Partners Nigeria Limited, aims to improve the standard of living for students and modernize infrastructure on campuses across the country.
According to FHFL’s Managing Director, Abdul Mutallab Mukhtar, the project will deliver 38,400 new bed spaces across universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education, with each site featuring 1,600 spaces, ensuite rooms, reading and common rooms, laundromats, cafeterias, and mini shopping areas.
Construction in the Ebonyi State University phase is expected to begin in October 2025 and be completed by October 2026, alongside projects at Federal Polytechnic Nekede and Benue State University.
This development is expected to ease accommodation challenges faced by students in Abakaliki, create job opportunities, and attract private investment in education within Ebonyi State.
Mukhtar described the initiative as “a landmark step towards safer, more conducive student housing that enhances learning outcomes and youth development.”
The Renewed Hope Student Housing Project is part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s broader education reform agenda aimed at transforming student welfare across Nigeria.
