Police Arrest Ebonyi Cleric Over Alleged Sex Scandal With 22-Year-Old

Date:

The Ebonyi State Police Command has taken into custody Bishop Ndubueze Onyeagoziri Okorie, General Overseer of Champion the Truth Cathedral, Abakaliki, following allegations of sexual misconduct involving a 22-year-old female church member reportedly battling sickle cell disease.

Confirming the development, the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu, told journalists that the cleric is currently in custody while investigations are ongoing.

“Yes, the bishop is with us. He is under investigation to determine the truth of the matter. That is what I can confirm for now,” Ukandu stated during a phone interview.

The scandal has sparked outrage after images and reports linked to the case circulated online, prompting condemnation from the public.

While the young woman alleged that Bishop Okorie took advantage of her during her stay at his residence since 2021, the embattled cleric denied the claims, insisting the images and videos were fabricated using artificial intelligence to tarnish his reputation.

Police authorities emphasized that a thorough investigation is underway to establish the facts surrounding the matter.
