Date:

Hon. Agu Opu Odefa, Coordinator of Oshiri Development Centre in Onicha Local Government Area, Ebonyi State, has formally reported a violent assassination attempt against him to the state’s Commissioner of Police.

In a petition dated September 29, 2025, and signed by his lawyer, Barrister S.U. Ununu, Odefa alleged that on Saturday, September 27, around 10 p.m., a group of armed men attacked him at Panna Hotels, Oshiri. The suspects, whose identities remain unknown, reportedly tried to kidnap him and force him onto a motorcycle.

The petition stated that Odefa resisted, prompting the attackers to strike him with machetes and axes. He sustained serious injuries but managed to escape and is currently receiving treatment in hospital.

The attackers also allegedly destroyed Odefa’s official vehicle, valued at N70 million. Barrister Ununu called on the police to arrest and prosecute the suspects for attempted murder, kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, and destruction of government property.

As of the time of this report, the Ebonyi State Police Command had not released an official response to the petition.
