Ebonyi Government Raises Minimum Wage to ₦90,000 for Civil Servants

Date:

Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has approved an upward review of the minimum wage for state workers, increasing it from ₦70,000 to ₦90,000.

The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Chief Ikeuwa Omebe, disclosed this on Thursday during a press briefing on the resolutions of the State Executive Council (EXCO).

According to Omebe, the wage increase takes immediate effect and cuts across all categories of civil servants. He stressed that the move was aimed at improving workers’ welfare and should not be seen as a political gesture.

“This government does not play politics with workers’ wellbeing. We have already cleared outstanding pensions and gratuities for retirees from the creation of the state in 1996 till date. Verification for local government retirees is ongoing, after which their payments will follow,” Omebe stated.

He further explained that the administration’s financial commitment to pensioners proves its sincerity in implementing the additional ₦20,000 wage increase.

Describing Governor Nwifuru as “a leader, a capacity builder, and a developer of both human resources and infrastructure,” Omebe said the state government remains guided by its People’s Charter of Needs policy framework, which prioritizes governance based on the citizens’ needs.

The commissioner also revealed that EXCO approved the enforcement of the eight-year tenure policy for directors in the state civil service, which includes the immediate retirement of permanent secretaries and directors who have served the stipulated period.
