IPMAN to Enforce Fuel Pump Integrity in Ebonyi and Beyond

Date:

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Enugu Unit, has announced plans to enforce fuel pump integrity across filling stations in Ebonyi State and other states under its coverage.

The Chairman of the unit, Chief Chinedu Anyaso, disclosed this shortly after the association’s 2025 Annual General Meeting held in Enugu on Sunday. The Enugu Unit of IPMAN supervises independent marketers in Enugu, Anambra, Ebonyi, and parts of Abia, Imo, Kogi, and Cross River States.

Chief Anyaso explained that members unanimously resolved to strengthen measures that will eliminate fuel pump cheating and ensure customers in Ebonyi and beyond receive full value for their money. He revealed that a special task force would be inaugurated in September to monitor filling stations, noting that erring members would face heavy fines and strict disciplinary action.

“Fuel pump fraud has no place in today’s business environment. Our members agreed during the AGM that the integrity of fuel dispensing must be maintained. We are setting up a daily monitoring task force to checkmate malpractice,” he said.

The chairman also highlighted the financial challenges facing some marketers, particularly in Anambra, where members are owed over ₦900 million by the state government for diesel supplied for streetlights. He warned that unresolved debts of this magnitude could cripple operations and, if not addressed, might lead to strikes that could trigger a sharp rise in petrol prices across the region.

In Ebonyi State, Anyaso praised the government’s investments in road construction and security infrastructure, which, he said, have improved the distribution of petroleum products. He expressed confidence that with a more conducive business environment, IPMAN members would continue to ensure uninterrupted supply of fuel to residents.

The meeting also considered opportunities for members, including participation in the Dangote Refinery Direct Sales and Delivery Scheme, and welfare packages designed to strengthen business operations. Presentations were delivered by the Federal Inland Revenue Service on electronic tax filing and by TradeGrid Limited on the use of solar power in fuel stations.

Chief Anyaso reassured that IPMAN would continue to protect its integrity while working with relevant stakeholders to sustain the smooth supply of petroleum products across Ebonyi and other states within its unit.
