In a strategic move to enhance vehicle repair services in Ebonyi State, the Chairman of Afikpo Local Government Area, Dr. Nwachi, has unveiled plans to establish a cutting-edge automobile diagnostic centre in collaboration with Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing (IVM).
Speaking during a media briefing in Abakaliki, Dr. Nwachi revealed that the project was inspired by an interactive session with automobile technicians in Afikpo, where stakeholders called for the creation of a mechanical village equipped with modern tools.
“As Afikpo continues to grow as Ebonyi’s second-largest city and a hub for modern car users, there is an urgent need to embrace advanced automotive technologies,” he noted.
Following discussions with local mechanics, the council approached IVM, which agreed to support the initiative by providing a state-of-the-art electronic diagnostic machine capable of identifying faults in newer vehicle models.
The facility, according to Nwachi, will serve both locals and visitors, boosting the competence of indigenous technicians with access to up-to-date diagnostic tools and training.
“We’ve secured land, commenced construction, and the project is already at an advanced stage. We’re also expecting the accompanying equipment soon,” he disclosed.
The Chairman emphasized that this initiative aligns with his administration’s focus on innovation-driven governance, prioritizing infrastructure, technology, and healthcare for the people of Afikpo.
Highlighting the historical importance of Afikpo, he referenced the legacy of Dr. Akanu Ibiam, a native of the region and the first Governor of the former Eastern Region, stating, “Afikpo has always led in progress. We’re building on that legacy by responding to the real needs of our people.”
On healthcare, Dr. Nwachi applauded Governor Francis Nwifuru’s deployment of medical personnel across Ebonyi. He further shared that his council has tackled critical access challenges in the health sector, including constructing a bridge to connect the Ugwegu health centre and renovating another facility in a separate community.
“Our goal is clear—accessible, functional, and safe healthcare centres for every resident,” he affirmed.
This groundbreaking partnership with Innoson not only positions Afikpo as a leader in modern auto diagnostics in Southeast Nigeria but also reinforces the local government’s dedication to people-first development.
